The city of La Spezia

La Spezia is situated in the centre of the famous Gulf of Poets (the name comes from the many artists who loved this place, from David Herbert Lawrence to George Sand, from Lord Byron to Percy Bysshe Shelley). From here, you can easily reach several Ligurian, Tuscan and Emilia Roman destinations. You can admire the picturesque streets of the historic centre, which are a stone’s throw away from us, our Corso Cavour and also streets such as Via del Prione and Via Chiodo, numerous museums such as the Centre of Modern and Contemporary Art (CAMEC), the Lia Museum (dedicated to ancient, medieval and modern art), the Seal Museum (which houses fifteen hundred seals that form the rich collection, gathered by the Capellini couple) and the Naval Museum inside the Military Arsenal. From the nearby Via Chiodo, you can reach the nearby Lerici, Portovenere, the town of Sarzana, Val di Vara and Val di Magra by bus.

Portovenere and the Pirate Coast

You can visit the traditional fishing villages of Marola, Cadimare, Fezzano and Le Grazie, with its fabulous bay, travelling from La Spezia by car or public transport. The last town is the pearl of Portovenere. It is the smallest town in the province of La Spezia, but it undoubtedly deserves to be considered as the “panoramic miracle” of the Gulf of Poets. You can also reach it by boat, which leaves directly from the city. For those who love the sea, its beaches with crystal clear water are a major attraction, but you will also go happily back in time as you enter the ancient village and walk along the narrow alley that leads to the church of San Pietro which overlooks the sea… . In front of the magical, medieval village lie the islands Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto. Palmaria is the only one that is inhabited and fully open.

Palmaria Island

You can reach it by boat from Portovenere or La Spezia. Disembarking at Terrizzo, you can take a path and walk surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation and cross the cliffs overlooking the sea. The Bay of Carlo Alberto (in front of Portovenere) has a beautiful pebble beach. On the western side, opposite Portovenere, we find the “Pozzale” cove. It is the ideal place for those who love the sea in its integrity and simplicity. Surrounded by the heady scents of myrtle, mastic and broom, you can enjoy the wonderful transparent and turquoise water that breaks on the pebble beach. We advise that you use rubber shoes to more easily enter the water.

Cinque Terre

Five beautiful villages perched on the sea and the rugged coast of Liguria: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso are some of the most prestigious wonders of global tourism, a source of pride for our land, and only a stone’s throw away from our hotel! In the fantastic setting of each of the five villages, you can admire the intricate architecture of the houses that are huddled together, the ancient vineyards that overlook from steep terraces, fishing boats moored in the harbours and you can enjoy typical dishes of the coast and sea specialties in the area’s many restaurants, which you can accompany with some of Italy’s best white wines.

Lerici and its surroundings

Lerici is on the complete opposite side to Portovenere, on the other side of the Gulf of Poets. A typical village with original medieval structures, it offers views of the characteristic houses that line narrow alleyways and the impressive castle that completes the scene. In this village, you’ll find both sandy beaches and cliffs within easy walking distance; on the pier, close to Piazza Garibaldi you can catch ferries that take you around the neighbouring islands and the Cinque Terre. The nearby villages also offer breath-taking views: Tellaro, Fiascherino, San Terenzo, La Serra and Montemarcello, to name a few, are some of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
